Overview of the Program

The placement system of the math department strives to place students in the appropriate class. Occasionally the student can be enrolled in a course they are unsuited for. The Early Alert System is a math department program that attempts to address this problem. At the beginning of each semester teaching assistants are asked to identify students who are not prepared for the course they are enrolled in. These students will be referred to an adviser. The adviser will look at the background and future plans of the student and will issue a recommendation. The recommendation is then e-mailed to the student and his/her academic adviser. The recommendation is advisory only and the information will not be included in the student's records.
