First announcement
January 7-11, 1999
Department of Mathematics
University of Wisconsin - Madison
The subject of Singular and Oscillatory Integrals
is central to modern analysis.
The methods and results have been applied in partial differential equations,
integral geometry, complex analysis and mathematical physics. The
conference will provide an opportunity for consolidation
of recent progress and an easy exchange of new ideas.
The formal scientific activity of the conference will focus on a series of
invited one hour talks by a distinguished list of mathematicians.
The following
have already agreed to speak:
- William Beckner
- Michael Christ
- Robert Fefferman
- Allan Greenleaf
- Nets Katz
- Carlos Kenig
- Detlef Müller
- Kate Okikiolu
- Duong H. Phong
- Fulvio Ricci

- Sarah Ziesler
There will also be opportunities for informal seminars
and other communication.
The participation of
advanced graduate students and recent Ph.D.'s is strongly encouraged.
There will be two instructional lectures by Anthony Carbery and James Wright
targeted in particular at this group.
This conference will be dedicated to
the mathematical contributions of
Professor
Stephen Wainger
during his distinguished career at the
University of Wisconsin-Madison.
The organizing committee consists of
Anthony Carbery (University of Edinburgh), Alexander Nagel (UW Madison),
Andreas Seeger (UW Madison) and James Wright (University of
New South Wales).
To indicate an interest
in attending the conference, or to receive future announcements, please

The conference will be supported by the
National Science Foundation and the
Institute for Mathematics and Its Applications.
Depending on the funding situation some support
for local expenses may be available to graduate students and recent Ph.D.'s.
Registration
There will be a small registration fee for the
conference which will cover the cost of refreshments
between lectures and other amenities. An informal reception will be held
