    Overview

The sequence Math 521-522 has the objective of conveying an understanding of the structure of analysis in itself as well as its role as a tool for other disciplines. This course is one of the three core courses in the mathematics curriculum and the sequence is highly recommended for any math major. The sequence is essential for students preparing for graduate studies in mathematics; The course should also be taken by students in physics and engineering who intend to do graduate work in their areas.
This course has a prerequisite of Math 340 but students need to be familiar with mathematical proofs. If the student has no or little experience with proofs, Math 421 is recommended first.
