Dear Sir/Lady, it is my pleasure to recommend to you Gabriele Meyer. Dr Meyer has been a lecturer in the department since 2003. She also was and still is active in the outreach to local high school students. In recent years she has created very beautiful hyperbolic surfaces, which were exhibited at the most important Mathematics conferences, the Joint Math Meetings in Boston 2012 and in San Diego 2013. This summer, they were accepted for the Bridges Conference, the premier annual meeting focusing on the connections between Mathematics, Art, Music and the Sciences, which this year takes place in the Netherlands. Her models were also used by researchers in our department for their work (Prof Slemrod and Prof Dymarz). Other universities support the connections between Mathematics and art, for example MIT with Martin and Erik Demaine, Berkeley with Carlo Seguin and Cornell with Daina Taimina. Last, but not least, her models make the fact that there are different geometries and their properties instantly understandable to the lay person and that helps with fundraising for the department. The Department of Mathematics supports this application by Gabriele Meyer. We are willing to match the Professional Development grant. Thank you very much,
