About #2, the "physics" involved is high-school level (the ancient Greeks probably knew how to do this). What it really involves is basic trigonometry (e.g. Math 113, "Analytic Trigonometry" page 320) and reading the problem carefully as the problem is structured to force you to approach it methodically.
