Your Grade
Breakdown:
  • Section: 20%
  • Midterm 1: 20%
  • Midterm 2: 20%
  • Final Exam: 40%
Section grades consist of homework and quizzes. They will be adjusted at the end of the semester so that, even if your TA is a tough grader or gives hard quizzes, your course grade will not suffer. You should expect to have a quiz in discussion section (essentially) ever week. Your TA will schedule quizzes.

Exams
There will be two evening exams and a final. Make-up exams are possible only in very specific circumstances. It is your responsibility to avoid unnecessary conflicts.

Exam Dates:
  • Midterm 1: Tuesday, March 4 from 7:15–8:45PM (EVENING).
    • Review all of the homework up to (and including) February 27.
    • Exams from previous years are probably not useful, but I have put together a few practice problems (also with solutions). Note that they do not cover the material from the February 27 homework.
  • Midterm 2: Tuesday, April 15 from 7:15–8:45PM (EVENING).
  • Final: Tuesday, May 13 from 7:45–9:45AM (MORNING).
Rules:
  • Calculators will NOT be permitted for quizzes and exams.
  • You will be allowed to bring a single 3x5 index card with notes to exams.

P = Precalculus textbook, C = Calculus course pack.

Help is out there
Don't stay confused! There are several resources available when you want some help outside of lecture and discussion:

  • Your TA's Office Hours
  • Tullia's Office Hours
  • Mathematics Tutorial Program: Free small group tutoring is offered to students who are in danger of getting a D or F, for students who have not had a math course in several years, or for students who are retaking the course. A significant time commitment is required. Any student can apply to the program, but after the first three weeks of the semester, a referral from an instructor is required. Students may apply in room 321 Van Vleck.
  • Math Lab: a free, drop-in tutorial program in B227 Van Vleck. Tutoring by Math Department TAs is available Monday–Thursday, 3:30–8:30PM and Sunday, 3:30–6:50PM.
  • Tutoring in University Residence Halls: free, drop-in math tutoring is available every evening Sunday–Wednesday at various residence halls.
  • Private Tutors: A list of tutors is available at the link or from the receptionist on the second floor of Van Vleck.
