Determinacy and Large Cardinals.  The axiom of determinacy implies the failure
of the axiom of choice.  Other more desirable consequences are: the continuum
hypothesis, every set of reals is Lebesgue measurable, and surprisingly the
first uncountable cardinal is a measurable cardinal.  For background on this
subject read "Believing the axioms I and II", by Penelope Maddy, Journal of
Symbolic Logic, vol 53 (1988) pp.481-511 and pp.736-764.
Grades will be based on attendance and prizes will be offered for open
problems (faculty and close family members not eligible).
