A. Miller Math 222 Calculus Spring 2004 Homework 1 Although most homework exercises will not be graded, if you want to pass the course, you know you have to do them. Besides they're fun. The exams will be based on the exercises in the book. You should do the exercises for each section before or immediately after it is covered in lecture and be ready to discuss them in the TA sections immediately following the lecture. In each section do at least every other odd problem, e.g. 1,5,9,..., or 1 mod 4. If you have trouble doing these problems, you should do all the odd problems. The answers for odd problems are in the back of the book. You should do some even problems because like the exam problems the answers will not be given to you. There is a student solution manual available from the publisher, although I have not seen it. The TA section grade will depend on your TA. The TA may decide to grade some homework exercises or to give a short 5-10 minute quiz based on the homework exercises. I am asking each TA to grade a minimum of one problem for each student for each section meeting. The TA section grade may also be partly based on class participation and/or attendance. Whatever method is used ask your TA to give you their grading method in writing. Makeup Exams: If you are too ill to take a midterm, contact your TA to get her permission to take a makeup exam. This will be a completely different exam to be made up and given by your TA at a time and place mutually agreed upon. I never give early exams or the same exam at a different time.
