Hoffman and Gerald L. Bradley, Brief edition, Tenth edition. McGraw Hill TA section: You will meet with your teaching assistant (TA) twice a week. The TA sections will be used for going over homework problems as well as handing back exams and answering questions. Homework problems will be assigned in each lecture and due in TA section when your TA tells you. I recommend that TAs give a short - one question - quiz on a randomly chosen problem each time she/he meets with you. Grading: There will be two evening exams during the semester (Thursdays 7:15pm-9:15), the final exam at the regular time (Dec 18 10:05am-12:05), and a TA grade. The final exam will count about one and half times as much as each evening exam. Your TA grade will count about 10% of your grade. It will be based on a combination of TA section quiz, class participation, attendance, grading homework or whatever else the TA wants to use (ask him or her). No Calculators: Due to the fact that there is a wide variation in the abilities of calculators they will not be allowed on exams. No cell phones, no electronic devices at all, no notes, and no books. All you will need to bring is your favorite pencil or pen. Makeup Exams: If you are too ill to take a midterm or for some other good reason cannot make it to the exam, contact your TA to get permission to take a makeup exam. The makeup will be a completely different exam given by your TA at a time after the regular exam time. I never give early exams or the same exam at a different time. Math Lab: This is a free, drop-in tutorial program staffed by math department teaching assistants and tutors.
