Title:  An introduction to the method of refinements

Abstract:  Christ's method of refinements is a geometric/combinatorial
approach to proving estimates for certain positive operators arising in
harmonic analysis.  In this talk, we will demonstrate the technique by
giving a simplified proof of a recent result, and, if time permits, a
complicated proof of an old one.
