Dear Mary Ann:

Re: Tax apportionment in Prairie Point

I understand that we may all be waiting for the city's decision on
on how to apply the new law, but whether or not Prairie Point gets
some tax relief, I hope that at the forthcoming meeting of the
Prairie Point residents you will make a commitment to reapportion
property taxes as recommended by the Residents' Budget Committee and
that this will happen this year or at the latest in 2010.

As you surely know, the inequities in the current system are huge
and due to multiple causes. I've known about this for some time, but
I did not realize the scale of the inequities. Few residents appear
to be aware of this and that is probably why the system has lasted
this long. I do not think it can bear the light of day.

Admittedly, I have a personal stake in reform. There are units of
the same kind as Miriam's and mine (A2s) built in the same year
(2003) with higher residency fees presumably due to more upgrades.
But their property taxes are over $2,000 lower than ours.

I urge you to deal with this issue at the meeting this month. I'll
be glad to come talk to you if you wish.

best wishes
